Bienvenido a España
Welcome to Spain
On behalf of the FECECT Executive Board and Committee members, it is my honor and pleasure to heartily invite you to join the participation of the 15th European Congress on E.C.T., which will take place in Toledo, from the 12th to the 15th of June 2013.
This Congress aims to address the challenges in extracorporeal circulation research and the conditions of our daily perfusion practice. It will facilitate communication amongst colleagues of different latitudes, to share knowledge which can be beneficial or helpful to improve the quality our patient care. Almost as important as the dissemination of the scientific program will be the International Trade Exhibition of the leading companies in the field of cardiovascular surgery, perfusion and associated technologies.
During the congress we will have also a rich and very interesting cultural program, with also activities for accompanying persons, by offering them the possibility to take discovery tours trough the city and the region to make also their stay a most enjoyable one.
Toledo is only 70 kilometers (about 30 minutes by high speed train) away from Madrid, the capital of Spain. In 1986, UNESCO rightly named the city of Toledo a World Heritage Site. Toledo in the land of Don Quixote was also the beloved city the famous painter El Greco.
It is located on rocky headland and bordered by the river Tagus. Some of the great landmarks of Toledo are the magnificent cathedral (an excellent example of Spanish Gothic art), the Alcázar (a fort that was founded almost 1000 years ago) and its vast number of churches and palaces at every turn of a corner. Toledo is also known as the “City of Three Cultures”, a combination of Christian, Islamic and Jewish cultural influences, highlighted by unsurpassable historic buildings. A visit to the historic city of Toledo is a must.
The best times to visit Toledo are spring and summer, when the weather is pleasant. In June, its average maximum temperature is 28°C with a minimum of 15°C.
The FECECT experience will guarantee the congress to be successful in promoting the development of perfusion technologies according to the interest of all the perfusionists and clinical and non clinical scientists involved with extracorporeal circulation technology.
Active participation in discussions and social events will be very important to have a successful congress. In this regard I hope many delegates from all over the world will come to Toledo to participate in the 15th European Congress.
On behalf of the FECECT and on my own behalf, I hope you will have fun pretending to be a detective as you discover Toledo’s cultural heritage and an interesting and enjoyable time by joining the congress and our cultural programme.
I look forward to meeting you in Toledo, Spain in June 2013!
